Clinical Practice

Somatic psychology, dance movement therapy, and the creative arts therapies transform the clinical process into an opportunity for well being to occur at multiple levels of human experience. Human communication is based on a continuum of experience, from the non-verbal, sensori-motoric realm to the more-complex, spoken, written and technological realms. My body-mind, mindfulness-based clinical framework, the Center -Post Trauma & Resiliency Framework, and its clinical counterpart, Restorative Movement Psychotherapy, is based on a developmental and phylogenic framework acknowledging the continuum of human communication. This continuum begins with sensori-motoric communication; the secondary languages are symbolism and the spoken word.

My approach to psychotherapy is a restorative process that is, in any language, resource-based. I learned, from many years of work with survivors of extreme human rights abuses, that reconnection to a sense of relative internal safety is necessary to facilitate a reconnection to the outer world. “Our experience of life occurs, at all levels, in our direct experience of our bodies – whether we describe experience cognitively, emotionally, physically or spiritually – our bodies serve as the primary reference point for our present moment experience.”
